Hockey is one of the greatest examples of a team sport. No individual, no matter how talented, can find success playing this game without a great supporting cast. Furthermore, individuals within the team must accept their roles and responsibilities.
When I played, I didn’t have a big shot and it wasn’t my responsibility to find the back of the net. Rather, I needed to use my hockey IQ , make plays and get the puck to our goal-scorers. By finding the right mix of play-makers and goal-scorers, hockey teams can have success.
My financial advising practice is built on this same philosophy – that “you can do better with your team than you can alone”. I joined the Winnipeg Financial Planning team because they embody this philosophy, and that’s the environment we create for our players and clients.
It’s the player’s responsibility to play well and earn their contracts; it is our responsibility to help them achieve financial independence with the income they earn.
